Omro, WI

We spent the long weekend in Wisconsin having various adventures. We drove home through Omro, WI where we saw this bizarre tower attached to a farm house outside of town. No explanation found on the net. A search in Flickr for “Omro” found the photo above. I wish I knew why it was built.

“Voyageur” magazine* (history of NE Wisconsin) documented this tower; this used to be a silver fox (fur) ranch, and the tower, built in 1935, was a watchtower or guardtower with a big spotlight to keep an eye out that no one came along and stole the(apparently) valuable foxes. Before I read this, it puzzled me,
too, for many years.
