uber-nacht mit kinder
I went camping with the second grade at Maggie’s school. We went to Lake Elmo Park Preserve. A wonderful site so close to the cities. We camped at a huge group site made from mowing a section of the prairie. A huge yellow moon rose above the treeline at about 6:30 and stayed bright all night. The kids were all well behaved and worked moving firewood and chopping vegetables.
I was exposed to a lot of German and was surprised to find myself understanding their principal by the end of the trip. Granted, she was holding up a glove and saying “vher ist der hand-shoe?”, but I still felt smart.
I think there were no injuries, except for a boy who complained that his eyes felt rusty after the wind blew a huge gust of flames from the campfire towards his face, but he was happily kicking a soccer ball around the next day, so I think he’s OK.

Rusty eyes — that’ll be cancer at 38. Nice job.

Nothing a swat with a hand-shoe won’t fix.
